We arrived in Karlsruhe, Germany in the evening and were greeting by our friend Justin who now lives there. Our whole purpose in going to Karlsruhe was to visit him and his family, and we had no other agenda. For the next couple days we got to catch up with our friends and got quite the history lesson on the city. We were actually so busy catching up and playing Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride we didn’t end up taking too many pictures :s Whoops! Oh well, that the beauty of vacation, you can relax and not feel guilty :)
One afternoon Justin took us for a walk around the Karlsruhe Palace, explaining how the city was designed in the same fashion as Washington DC. The Palace being the center and the city fanning out from the tower at the center of the Palace.
The wrought iron gates caught our attention.
Just as we got to the front of the palace we got the tiniest bit of blue sky to really show the beauty of the scenery.
This was Karls father, but mostly we’re just fascinated with the copper sculpture and how it changes color over the years.
J&R, we had a great time catching up with you and discovering a bit about your life in Karlsruhe! Thanks for having us, for the great food and fun game nights :)
